GreekHours ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and university affiliation through your Google or Microsoft account.
• Location Data: When you start an active study session, we use precise location to verify approved-location check-in and active-session compliance. Location is not collected when there is no active study session.
• Study Hours Data: We record the times you check in and out, the locations where you study, and your accumulated hours.
• Device Information: We may collect device identifiers and operating system information for app functionality and troubleshooting.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Verify your identity and manage your account
• Track and record your study hours at approved locations
• Share your study progress with your chapter administrators
• Provide weekly reports and progress tracking
• Improve our app and services
• Communicate important updates about the service
• Send functional session reminders and session-integrity alerts during active sessions (not marketing or promotional messages)

Information Sharing

We share your information with:

• Your Chapter: Your chapter administrators can view your study hours, progress toward requirements, and check-in history.
• Service Providers: We use third-party services (such as cloud hosting and authentication providers) that may process your data on our behalf.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Location Data

Important: GreekHours uses your device's location services to verify study sessions. Here's how:

When We Collect Location

• At Check-In: When you start a study session, we verify you are at an approved study location
• During Active Sessions: We verify location only while a study session is active. Depending on platform and permission mode, this may include app-open checks and active-session background enforcement.
• At Check-Out: When you end your session, we record your final location
• No Active Session: We do not collect location data when there is no active study session

Active Session Location Tracking

GreekHours uses location only during active study sessions for session verification. This is necessary to:

• Verify you remain at an approved study location throughout your session
• Automatically end your session if you leave the approved area (with a 2-minute grace period)
• Ensure accurate tracking of study hours for your chapter's academic requirements

On iOS, approved-location enforcement uses geofence monitoring during active sessions. If iOS permission remains at While Using, your session can still run with limited verification reliability while the app is not active. On Android, active-session background verification may run when required permissions are granted. Ending your session stops session-location tracking.

Session Reminder Notifications

• GreekHours notifications are functional active-session reminders and session integrity alerts.
• These notifications are not marketing or promotional messages.
• Reminder frequency is reduced during long sessions to limit repeat alerts.

Permissions and User Controls

• You can change location and notification permissions at any time in your device settings.
• The Play quick-start button only opens the Study start flow and does not bypass normal permission or approved-location checks.
• You can end your session at any time, which stops active-session location verification.

How Location Data Is Used

• Location data is used solely to verify study sessions at approved locations
• Your chapter administrators can see which approved location you studied at
• Precise GPS coordinates are not shared with administrators—only the location name
• You can review your location history in your study session logs

Your Control Over Location

• You can end your study session at any time, which stops all location tracking
• You can revoke location permissions in your device settings at any time
• The app will not function for session tracking without location permissions, but you can still view your history and profile

Data Retention

We retain your study hours data for the duration of your membership in your chapter. Account information is retained until you request deletion or your account is deactivated.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Export your study hours data

• Request data deletion - Permanently delete your account and all associated data

Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and access controls.

Children's Privacy

GreekHours is intended for college students aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals under 18.
